In August this year, The Void teased a Marvel Sony virtual reality experience that was set to come to the VOID’s VR centers. The Location-based entertainment provider has now confirmed that Avengers: Damage Control will indeed be launching on its centers on October 2018. Bookings for this already opened on October 3rd .

The Avengers: Damage Control was produced by Marvel Studios and ILMxLAB for The Void. In this new Marvel experience, fans will take wear a new suit that has been inspired by the nanotech Iron Man suits in the Endgame and Infinity War. The suit has however been designed by Wakanda’s impeccable engineer Shuri.

The Avengers: Damage Control trailer video immerses players in Wakanda where a recruitment is going on for the candidate to pilot the new Iron Man suits. It is a mix between the many Stark designs but with Black Panther inspirations in its aesthetics. Like in Black Panther’s mask, the eyes are narrower and it has the purple coloring that aligns more closely with Wakanda’s king than with the standard Tony Stark’s gold-and-red standard.

Players will play the game in teams of four as they test the design and also go after the “familiar enemy from the Avengers’ past” who is intent on stealing the technology. The teams will have to stop the enemy on his tracks before he imposes an “oppressive new age” on the planet. The Avengers: Damage Control also includes appearances from various Avengers including Wasp, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and many others. It is not apparent yet whether actors Paul Rudd, Benedict Cumberbatch and Evangeline Lily will redo their respective roles in the game. Though that could likely be the case given that this is a Marvel project.

Avengers Damage Control

The Avengers: Damage Control has been co-developed by ILMxLAB. This is the Disney studio that is also behind Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire and Vader Immortal.

Avengers: Damage Control provides players with an interactive adventure built around a theme that millions of Marvel fans have been pining for since the release of the Black Panther blockbuster.

Wakandan heir-apparent Shuri is testing both male and female suits that combine Iron Man and Wakandan technologies. As a player, you will wear one of these suits inside the VR environment and interact with Wasp, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and at least a “familiar villain”.

Since four people can play Damage Control together, family and friends can join in and live the Avengers fantasy at The Void’s locations. However, the price is steep with tickets costing $40 per person aged 10 and above. Keep in mind also, that the experience lasts only 15 minutes in VR along with the 15 minutes it takes to onboard and exit.

Cost aside, the Damage Control experience offers something incredible with high-end computer-generated virtual reality, the classic Avengers cinematic theme music and the actual voices of the Avengers Evangeline Lilly (Wasp), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) among others.

Disney has also provided separate licenses to Sony (Iron Man) and Oculus (Marvel: Powers United) to release virtual reality titles for both consoles and home PCs.

LBE provider The Void is currently in a frenzied expansion drive that will see it increase its location-based entertainment centers from the current 14 to 25 within two years. Apart from its U.S. and Canadian markets, The Void is also planning to launch a European presence in partnership with mall owners that are currently working to repurpose their malls. For now, however, Damage Control will only be available in 10 Void centers. Tickets are already on sale.
